Is TJ In your top 5?
Ndudi Ebi-Westbury Christian

January 28, 2009 at 4:40 am |
Based on what the players did in High School, here’s my top 5
Carlos Hurt
T.J. Ford
Alton Ford
Lawrence Roberts
Tommy Mason-Griffin(I’m not afraid to say it, you’ve seen him too)
I decided to go with TMG instead of Daniel Gibson because it’s hard to put D-Gib on the list and not put Taurean “Tac” Minor on too. This was a tough one because in that ten year spand, there’s easily guys who can replace these guy in terms of what you think makes them the best. Daniel Gibson(Jones), Taurean Minor(Booker T. Washington), Emmanuel Adigun(Wheatley), Daniel Ewing(Willowridge), Emeka Okafor(Bellaire), Ndudi Ebi(Westbury Christian), Cedric Horace(Sterling), Stanley Asumnu(Westbury Christian), Field Williams(Waltrip), Daunte Stiggers(Hastings), Jermichael Miller(Wheatley) and Eddie Barlow(Yates).
January 28, 2009 at 5:54 am |
Whoa..I love Tommy, but lets give him some time before we make him top 5… ..some of those guys you listed were good players but not on the level of the 5 that I named…Ndudi Ebi was the #2 ranked player in the country and was a first round pick… so he should be on any list included…D Gib has to go on there ahead of Tack for the simple fact that he won state, went undefeated, and went 2 the league…Stiggers, Stan, Miller, Cedric Horace, Barlow, etc…were all good players but they werent all americans..
January 31, 2009 at 8:47 pm |
Mr. Houstonpreps you can not say or even imagine TEXAS(not houston) highschool bball without mentioning TOMMY NELSON MASON-GRIFFIN! Even at this point none of the players mentioned can even compare! Let me explain:
ONE DAY GOD SAID, I FEEL LIKE MAKING A BASKETBALL GOD, SO HE TOOK THE SHOOTING ABILITY OF DANIEL GIBSON, LIGHTNING QUICK SPEED OF TAC MINOR, FLOOR GENERAL ABILITY OF TJ FORD, SCORING ABILITY OF CARLOS HURT, CREATIVITY OF D. EWING, BALL-HANDLING AND JAW DROPPING PASSING ABILTY OF STEVEN MARSHALL(did yall forget about him) and THE MOST BEUATIFUL SHOT RELEASE FROM OCIE HINES AND MADE TOMMY MASON-GRIFFIN. Please give credit where credit is due no matter what point a player is in at their career. Don’t use the “he in the league” chants as why he is one the best highschool ballers cause a couple of the guys on this list are not doing what they were doing in High School and some in the league and we haven’t seen them play! Stick to the script and use valid arguements. TMG has not played with the caliber of players these other guys have and do note he took his team to the game before state without a true center and the guy who played center missed the entire playoffs. Now lets talk about D, at times he’s not as tight as he should be on D, but notice everytime someone is milking his team he steps up and checks that player! DGIB gave it to many players but he also got it back i.e TAC Minor!!
BTW, I see GOD has a sense of humor also when he created the way some of you guys think after I read this survey. Put TMG on everylist houston preps his name should be a default!!
February 4, 2009 at 4:55 am |
Okay I talked it over with a few guys and you’re right D-Gib should be on the list but not for anything he did after high school, but this Ndi guy. He can’t crack my top 15 list and player rankings don’t mean a hill of beans in my book, if you can hoop then you can hoop and you don’t need someone to clarify you’re abilities. Rankings means to me mean that you played well in front of the right guy with a pen and pad. So my list is as follows and in this order.
Carlos Hurt
Alton Ford
T.J. Ford
Tommy Mason-Griffin
Daniel Gibson
February 4, 2009 at 3:18 pm |
Man I think yall arent giving Ndi his props beacuase he played at a private school. Yall better go back and chack the stats. He was flat out dominat. He destroyed every big time player he played against from Al Jefferson to Charlie Villaneuva. He went to the USA games and broke every record, dominated the AAU circuit, demolished Nike Camp. On an AAU team with D Gib and Tack he was the go to guy. Now he might not be a hood legend like TMG, TJ, LOS Hurt, Tack, etc..but he flat out got it done as far as high school ball. You cant be a first round pick straight out of high school without having some game…. And D Gib accomplished a lot after high school: freshman all-american, all big 12, and a fat $30 mill contract! That speaks for itself.
February 4, 2009 at 6:19 pm |
houstonpreps it sounds like you’re beefing with one’s opinion, but I am with steven! I don’t think Ndi would crack anyone’s top five other than yours!! Are you guys related? I been watching highschool for as far as I can remember and Ndi just didn’t do it for me! I guess he didn’t do it for whomever drafted him either cause I think he over seas. CAN YOU SAY KWAME BROWN? I think Ndi would fall in the category with FIRST ROUND BUSTS! Every team and I quote “Ndudi Ebi would be a WORK-IN-Progress but he had to much upside to pass on”!! So I guess he was the man or dominant in highschool but for every Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, or Eddie Curry there is likely to be 5 first round picks that are busts, it’s never the ability it just may be the work ethnic or the serious lack of passion to become a great player! Obivously and undoubtedly from how you pubbing him along with his first round pick status he had the abilty to be great in “the league” and was given the chance in “the league” however he wouldn’t crack my top 5 as the best highschool hoopers. SCOUTS, GENERAL MANAGERS and OWNERS(mike jordan drafted kwame brown) make mistakes contrary to our beliefs they are human and MICHAEL JORDAN MADE A MISTAKE!!! BTW, yes d gib do that AFTER highschool but he’s not on my list and it reads as follows in this order:
TMG
LOS
ALTON
TJ
Lawrence Roberts
February 5, 2009 at 7:00 am |
Not putting D-Gibson on their is ridiculous, this dude had the ability to dominate some high school players , when he was in middle school, dont forget the buzz he had coming out of dowling, then went own to Jones a mediocre program and gave them a state championship. TJ Ford the most dominant point guard period, he had players scared on the offensive and defensive end. Tommy Mason Griffin just plain out gifted, strong athletic, vision, scoring, floor general, 4 year starter, all-greater houston player of the year as a junior, and this kid is still going, everytime this kid steps on the court he gives his team a chance to win, if u dnt believe me chk out his previous years playoffs run. I see a few people hateing on NdudiI EBI, but that shows me a few people really dnt know basketball, the question was top 5 highschool players, he had size and skill unlike any player in the modern era, 6″9. could handle the pill. could shoot, post up if needed, score, rebound, and he went to all the camps and combines to back it up, i didnt like his choices after high school, but this kid could flat out play, and my last choice would be Carlos Hurt, 4 year starter, dominant force in 2001 class,
TJ Ford
Daniel Gibson
Tommy Mason
Carlos Hurt
Ndudi Ebi
February 6, 2009 at 2:43 pm |
I see you and I need to sit down and look each other in the eye about this hooping shit. Your list is obsurd and ridiculus if you put los and tommy under TJ and DGIB!!! You talk about TJ having people scared but lets go back to campbell center 2001, the most hyped game in bball history. Los and TJ squared off and hands down Los mudered TJ but you say he had all this tenacious D??? The ridge had to go into a box and 1 to contain Los?? Nigga are you serious, if TJ had all that D you talk about he would have said Coach Courtney you are embarassing me in front of my family and all of Carlos Hurt’s fans!! Emphasis on Carlos Hurt’s fans! TJ should have went into a man D, but he didn’t couldn’t and refuse to check that monster without help! Every player on the ridge team tried, but to no avail, to stop him! I saw everybody at the top of that box playing the 1 in that Defense!! Let me rearrange your list for you and by the way if you want to continue blogging with me stay off the PCP, WET, SHERM, or whatever it is you smoking:
TOMMY
Los
TJ
DGIB
I wouldnt dare play into putting Ndudi Ebi on any list over Lawrence or Alton, even if I am rearranging your list!
February 6, 2009 at 2:58 pm |
mr basketball, apparently u didnt read the list, the list is in no particular order, so wht u saying is ridiculous, and plain out retarded, laurence roberts and alton, thats funny, come on man u didnt even know larence until his junior year, alton was good and dominant for his size and the era, but ndudi was more skilled than both of those guys, its hard argueing basketball with a volleyball player, my 5 players hold it down for themselves none is better than the other
February 7, 2009 at 3:56 pm |
oH EXCUSE ME I THOUGHT THAT WAS IN ORDER FROM BEST TO WORST EMPHASIS ON WORST SINCE YOU HAD EBI LAST! LAWRENCE OR ALTON WOULD KILL EBI IN ANY SITUATION!! YEAH I PLAYED VOLLEYBALL AND WON A GOLD MEDAL IN THE 1996 OLYMPICS!! GOOGLE ME YOU CLOSET PILLOW BITER, I CHOSE TO GO TO THE OLYMPICS INSTEAD OF PLAY BBALL!!
February 9, 2009 at 4:49 pm |
For you guys who put lawrence roberts in your Top 5 you clearer dont know basketball and TMG is a good player but the high school b-ball now from years past has drastically changed so its too early to throw him in your top 5
February 10, 2009 at 6:14 pm |
I.Q.off da charts your IQ is clearly up your behind if you think tommy don’t belong in the top five players of the past 10 years! where have you been for the last 3?? Name one player that has averaged 30 ppg in the playoffs other than TMG in the last 10 even 20 years????
February 12, 2009 at 6:11 pm |
The competition in high school basketball is horrible compared to about 5 yeras ago thats why u just cant throw him in the top 5 so early ndudi ebi should belong in your top 5
February 12, 2009 at 6:42 pm |
I.Q. off da charts if you post a omment please back it up. This is why Lawrence Roberts should be on more peoples list.
Lamar High School- 25pts, 18rb, 5a, 4bl
MVP of Jaycee Tournament with a 58 point game which was topped by another player in my top 5 (emmanuel adigun)
Post High School
Big 12 freshman of the year, freshman all american, and top 10 inside-out players eligible
For draft regardless of class
03-04 sec player of the year, first team all-american, mississippi state ranked in top 10.
He hurt his draft status by coming back even though he averaged 18 and 11.
I just want to know why I don’t know basketball because I have lawrence in my top 5.
February 12, 2009 at 7:35 pm |
Man Emmanuel Adugin was a good player but his name doent belong in the top 5 players. Not even close. Tack, D Ewing, Field Williams,Jawaan Mcwellan, etc.. All these players belong ahead of Adugin. I think yall are focusing 2 much on hood celebrity status instead of actual game. Adugin had a nice handle and good size. He wasn’t the most athletic or best shooter so he ended up @ a school (UT arlington) that fit his talents. Lawrence deserves consideration for top 5 status but no list should be together without EBI. He dominated high school in every way possible. The only thing he is missing is a “hood pass” because he went to Westbury Christian.
February 13, 2009 at 1:30 am |
GUYS GUYS GUYS, behave!! mr preps a hood pass dont make you a better player than a private school attendee!!! I just call it like I see it, I don’t think EBI was greasy enough for the inner city schools, he was kind of soft!!
February 13, 2009 at 2:57 am |
My argument is not about Ebi. He is a great player, I just wanted to know why it was a problem to have Lawrence Roberts in the top 5. The Emmanuel Adigun thing was a joke. I know he doesn’t belong in the top 5 ahead of Tommy. Houstonpreps I think people are not respecting the case for Ndubi Ebi because they did not see him in summer ball or follow his career. Your points are valid and I know you know the game better than most people but I understand the other peoples posts about not putiing Ebi in the top 5.
June 21, 2009 at 8:37 pm |
I can’t believe you guys are saying that I’m not deserving and that I’m a joke. Wowwww!!! That’s funny to me because I gave D Gib, D. Ewing, and all your other guys the business. 29.8pts. 50+% from the the 3 and wins. No athletic ability? Get real. I was the truth and my numbers proved it. Look up the 2001 All City team. Oh, by the way I went to UT Arlington to stay close. I could of went anywhere. Since ya’ll so smart you should of known that. But just the fact that my name is being mentioned tells me that I do come to mind when you guys mention the best. Thanks!!!
February 13, 2009 at 3:48 am |
I have no problem with putting Lawrence in the top 5. You have very valid points, but the guys I listed were at the head of their class NATIONALLY. Lawerence is definetly a guy who you could make a case for top 5, but I just dont see him in there over Alton Ford or EBi. Also why doesnt anyone ever mention Nic Wise? He was a top player in the country who commited to Arizona as a freshman. All he ever did in high school was win(including two trips to the state tourney in Austin), plus he had his HS squad in the top 25 in the country. Very underrated, but once again since he attended Kingwood so he doesnt have a hood pass.
February 13, 2009 at 4:37 pm |
Damn Preps get off the hood pass shit, which player in your top 5 do you take off and add Nic Wise???
February 13, 2009 at 4:42 pm |
O.Hines I call it how i see it Ebi is clearly better than him no if, and’s, or but’s about it ebi won pretty much won the MVP of every tournament he played in won or lost he dominated against National competition not local like lawrence did and his stats were even better than lawerence roberts so why would you not put him in your top 5?
February 13, 2009 at 7:17 pm |
Mr Basketball I wouldn’t necessarily put Nic Wise in the top 5, but Im just saying his name hast even been mentioned once. He at least deserves consideration.
February 13, 2009 at 8:25 pm |
O.Hines, we have this talk ALL the time… My top 5 is as follows
1. Carlos Hurt
2. TJ Ford
3. Emeka Okafor
4. Alton Ford
5. Daniel Gibson
Honorable (This list could go on forever)
Tommy Mason Griffin
Daniel Ewing
Ndudi Ebi
Lawrence Roberts
Gerald Green
Emmanuel Adigun
February 14, 2009 at 9:05 pm |
Baptiste you are losing your mind CLOWN, I would rather you not even mention that kid TOMMY if he has to be a HONORABLE MENTION!
Houston Preps please do a internet talk show so these fools can show their face with this ridiculus ass talk!!!!
February 15, 2009 at 6:58 pm |
preach mrbasketball that n!##a d.baptiste smoking wet! Alton Ford and Emaeka Okafor are nowhere near the top 5 players to ever cum thru Houston! Are you in the company of Alton………… you must be because that was a hell of a chew! I thought you went to madison??? How can Okafor be in your top 5? Is there anybody that went to Madison that you like?
Tommy Mason-Griffin
TJ Ford
Carlos Hurt
Antonio Falu
Steven Marshall
February 15, 2009 at 11:15 pm |
I would put TMG in the top 5, I’m just waiting until the playoff run is over with… Tommy has had a great career, but I was around for when Milby was kickin everybody’s ass, and Alton had a big part in that success… When it’s all said in done, Tommy along with D.Gibson, TJ, Hurt, and Tack Minor will be one of the best players/guards ever to play in Houston, but I’m gonna reserve my judgement until his career is completely over with… Yeah, I went to Madison, but if you can’t appreciate the numbers Okafor put up and his defensive presence in the paint, you not a basketball fan.
As far as these personal attacks, you niggas gay. For real.
February 16, 2009 at 4:16 pm |
Baptiste im only speaking for me and me only, but it was not a personal attack and I am appalled you felt that way! The topic is the last 10 years and even though TMG’s career is not over as of yet a portion of his career will fall under “last 10 years”!!! Last year he averaged 33 and 8 in the playoff run, and had a 29 point 4th quarter to bring his team back from being down by 22 points!! He took his team to the game before state with only one other player in the starting 5 averaging double figures!! As a matter of fact make your list of TOP 5 players cause he’s a cut above the rest of this topic!!! You are a smart guy, compile the data of all the players on this list and post it!!
February 16, 2009 at 10:21 pm |
As far as PG’s are concerned, TMG is my favorite Mrbasketball. I just want to see how his career comes to an end, all the other guys I listed were McD’s All-Americans, know, you and I both know that process is VERY political, however, they also had team success also. I understand that the team success isn’t TMG’s fault, because the right pieces were not in place for him to get a state title while at Madison. My thing is, I feel it’s too early to put TMG up in my Top 5 now, because I haven’t really had time to reflect on his career. He has had a MARVELOUS career, but I will reserve my judgement until he is done at Madison.. I know this much, he is the best guard to EVER come through Madison, and that’s an accomplishment in itself. If you know like I know, there have been some SUPER talented guards that have come through Madison, but he is the one that followed through on his talents… I’m very proud of him to say the least.
May 10, 2010 at 1:10 pm |
Sean Gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The best guard to come out of Madison
February 17, 2009 at 8:22 pm |
You right baptiste they’re about to do the selection tonight for McD’s, im 100% sure you will see his name if not…………POLITICS IS BS, he deserves it!!!
February 18, 2009 at 3:17 am |
Okay, okay guys this started with me not putting d-gib or ndi on my list, so I take the blame, but its my list. I tend to think I know alot about basketball and at times I can be wrong, but not often. Tommy is the only player that I have ever seen able to perform under the mental and defensive pressure that he faces every game. No one and he still a force. So lets just say its a tie for the 5th spot. A top 4 list
February 18, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
You’re right steven, I don’t remember d-gib being checked by a triangle and 2 defense or Tac, maybe Los, but even with the face guarding and “TMG” defenses that high school coaches conjure up he’s still a problem for teams. He is and has been the best player in TEXAS in the last 10 years so WE HAVE TO INCLUDE HIM ON EVERY LIST!!!
February 18, 2009 at 2:42 pm |
What did I miss? It went from bball to guys taking pop shots at one another?!?!?!??!?!?!
TOMMY IS THE BEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY BALL IN HOUSTON!! CHECK HIS STATS, ACCOLADES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND COMPARE TO THE OTHER GUYS AND THIS ARGUEMENT CAN BE CLOSED! AS A MATTER OF FACT WITHOUT A STATE TITLE UNDER HIS BELT HE’S BETTER THAN EVERYBODY MENTIONED ON EVERYBODY’S LISTS! HE HASNT HAD THE CALIBER OF PLAYERS AROUND LIKE ANYONE ELSE ON THIS LIST FOR EXAMPLE TJ PLAYED WITH 5-6 OTHER GUYS WHO GOT D-1 FREE RIDES, 4 OF THEM WENT TO BIG COLLEGES! LOS HAD SOME BEASTS ON HIS TEAM AND SO ON! NOT TAKING AWAY FROM THE CORE OF PLAYERS THAT TOMMY HAS PLAYED WITH BECAUSE THEY ALL CAN GO, BUT THEY’RE NOT D. EWING, IVAN OR KENNY!!!
PREPS DO A NEW POLL ON THE BEST GUARD TO EVER PLAY IN HOUSTON AND LETS SEE WHO WINS!!
May 10, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
Eddie Owens was the best to ever don a uniform in Houston. No argument needed for this one
February 19, 2009 at 3:05 pm |
Man thats another topic for another day. I dont know if can agree with the best ever because you have to start talking about Rashad Lewis and guys like that. Then the old school ballers will begin to tell you stories about guys like Rob Williams and players from those old run and gun days at Wheatley and Yates. Thats a huge statement to be labeled as THE BEST EVER! Its arguable but I truly feel that he has to wina state ring to be labeled as the best ever. That goes for any athlete on any level( Jordan, Kobe, Emmit Smith,Joe Montana). You cant be justified as the greates without that ring. He truly is one of the most talented ever…but I have to at least let him get out of a Madison uniform before I can make that statement.
February 19, 2009 at 4:08 pm |
TMG did it!! He’s a McD’s All-American, CONGRATS!! And to top it off, he dropped damn near 50 to celebrate! Regardless of where you think he should be ranked, let’s just revel in the fact that this young man is achieving his dreams and doing it in style…. Hopefully he RIPS through the competition during the playoffs… Hell, it’s his last stand, I think TMG has a 50 pt game or 2 in his tank… Stay tuned…
February 19, 2009 at 4:54 pm |
I LOVE MR. PREPS(no homo) he’s always dropping jewels but usually they have no substance or value!!! LOL just kidding but in reference to your statement, Dan Marino is considered one of the greatest and he has no jewelry to show for it, Barry Sanders does not own a piece of hardware but he’s considered as one of the greatest. I’m not sure if Nolan Ryan has any MLB ships but he’s the GREATEST!!! KOBE GOT HIS RIDING THE DIESEL, and he wont get another but he’s the greatest so with all that said, ships or rings don’t justify being great, its what you do or how hard you try while trying to obtain that covenant piece of Jewelry!
February 19, 2009 at 5:03 pm |
There is no denying that TMG is great, or any of the other players that were mentioned. All Im saying is to be considered the best that usually requires winning a ‘chip. Of course different circumstances cause great players to be denied that oppurtunity to win a ring, but when most people say “the best” or “the greatest” a ring is usually required.
February 20, 2009 at 4:26 pm |
houstonpreps that statement is not true, mrbasketball gave you a list of the greats without rings or ships!! Peyton Manning would have went down as the best quarterback to ever play the game without a superbowl because of how he played and what he done on the field! Now Brady needed those rings to even be considered……….some people just come to mind during baber shop talk even though they haven’t won the big one but stay tuned Play-offs start next week!! Try to catch some games and watch him “gone work”!!
March 11, 2009 at 4:13 am |
I went to the Madison-Strake game and I watched one the high school greats take his last breath on the high school level. What has amazed me about this playgroung debate is that even at just the level that TMG is at, he’s is even being mentioned in this talk of greats. That soldifies his impact. Just think about it, with the exception of Carlos, Alton, and D-Gib, if any of these guys that have been mentioned had stop playing after high school never to pick up a rock again, would their name even come up? TJ would have just been quick guard who could dribble well. Ndi would have been a undersized big man or a underskilled athlete with alot of potential who because he went to private school, had a lot to prove. Lawrence is questionable to be on the list above but its still a large window. Emeka just a bag of “if he can get the right coach to work with him” talks. Man, man has alot of upside but he’s a big ?. Gerald Green would probably be walking around talking about how he used to jump over gates flat footed. Sprewell, oops I mean tack should have had that pigskin too. So there you have it New Mannie Louisiana. Said that ment that and a fight go with that. RIP Pimp C. TMG is a special hooper and game like that comes around every 2 decades and the crazy part is that Madison had two of those rare players with Tommy in bball and Vincent in football. So guess in the next few years Madison will have that next baseball or track and field phenom. Will it be your kid? These has got to be something in that damn Sims Bayou.
March 27, 2009 at 3:32 pm |
Steven…. That was some real talk. Ever so often, Madison has a phenom that walks through the door.. If TMG had at least ONE serviceable big man, Madison could have won state. But that wasn’t the case and he will leave Madison and Houston as one of the best to ever do it at the high school level. I hope he continues to work hard and I hope he succeeds at Oklahoma.
May 2, 2009 at 5:14 am |
Chris, I just want to say you’re doing a really good thing here with these boys. I hope they understand how important what you’re doing is. Not to you, but it’s important to them. When I was in school if someone like you had come along to keep me focused and getting me ready mentally and physically, then maybe I wouldn’t have turned out to be another “what if” hooper. So with that being said, keep up the good work. To a real hooper, Basketball is Life. They can’t stop me, even if they stop.
May 6, 2009 at 2:06 am |
Thanks Steve. This is just a passion. I have gained such valuable knowledge over the years, and I saw the need and oppurtunity to help a lot of kids through basketball. There a lot of “what if’s” floating around and I am determined to not see another what if walk the streets of Houston.
May 5, 2009 at 9:07 pm |
Tj ford
Ndudi Ebi
Daniel Gibson
Emeka Okafor
Carlos Hurt
Honorable Mentions :
Karon Bradley
Phillip Mcdonald
Mike Singletary
May 15, 2009 at 2:40 am |
Say Zach, fella, your main list is cool. But no offense that honorable mention is boo-boo.
